Russellville Junior High and Senior High Band will begin their pre-school band rehearsals on August 2nd.  The High School band will meet in the mornings from 8-to-12 noon in the senior high band room.  The Junior High will meet from 2-till-4:30 p/m in the junior high band room.

The city of Danville reminds that their aquatics center is open for the summer season.  Hours of operation are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 12-to-5 p/m.  Tuesday and Thursday, noon to 8 p/m.  The aquatics center is closed on Sunday.  Admission is 4-dollars for those 17 and under, 5-dollars 18 and over, and 2 and under get in free.  Get further information by calling 495-2235.

Plainview Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8525 will be having a emergency meeting at the post on August 10th at 6:30 p/m, to discuss interested in continuing the post.  The Post, with a lengthy history of service to Plainview and Yell County; is in danger of closing, as a result of low membership attendance and a lack of officers willing and able to serve.  Those interested in seeing this organization continue to serve are ask to attend this upcoming special meeting.  For further details, call 479-393-9354.

Dover Public Schools reminds that their Summer Meals program is underway...  Drive-thru meal pick-up each Thursday will begin at 12-noon and run till 2 p/m, or until meals are exhausted.  The meal kits will include 5 breakfasts, 5 lunches, milk, fruit and produce for children up to age 18.  Families with youth don't have to be a Dover School System student to be included in the program.

If you are planning on showing poultry or rabbits at the Yell County Fair, remember that all entries are due in the Danville office by Monday, August 2nd. between 8:00am and 4:00pm. No late entries will be accepted. All poultry must have a health certificate showing a negative test for Pullorum, or documentation showing they have originated from a Pullorum free flock. All rabbits must be tattooed. Pullorum testing and rabbit tattooing will take place July 31st. from 8:00am to 10:00am at the Pavilion located atop the hill at the Danville City Park.

Clarksville School System announced their planned "Open House Days" scheduled for Tuesday, August 10th at the primary school from 5:30 to 6:30 p/m.  And, Thursday, August 12th at the Elementary between 2-and 6 p/m and at the Middle, Junior and Senior High School from 5-to-6:30 p/m.  Get further details by contacting the District.

Russellville's Aquatic Center will play host to a free Back 2 School swim on Saturday, August 14th from 5-to-8 p/m.  Pizza, soda and a whole lot of fun will be included in the day's events.  This event has a limited capacity, with a total of 150 kids to be included.  Get there early and be a part of the fun.

Atkins Water utility will  begin flushing water lines on Thursday, August 5th at 8 a/m.  Laundering during this time should be done with care, as they may be some discoloration of water during the flushing effort.  Flushing will involve the Southwest Atkins area Thursday and Friday.  Highway 64 West and South of 64 on Monday.  Tuesday, Highway 105 South and Lucky Landing, then between Highway 64 and Interstate 40 on Wednesday, August 11th and Thursday, August 12th.  Atkins city officials regret any inconvenience with may be caused during this program.

September 21st is the date for the 2021 Dover Public Education Foundation Banquet, a fund raiser for this community organization.  Plans are being finalized for this year's effort, celebrating the 10th for the event.  Dover High School Cafeteria will play host to the effort.  Get further details at DoverPEF-dot-Org.

Johnson County Coordinators have set at September 11th date for their 24th annual Relay For Life event on the Courthouse square at Clarksville.  Hours for the event will be from 6 to 10 p/m, with food, games and fun included in the effort to raise funds toward the battle against cancer.  Teams are forming now and those interested can call 979-4569 or 979-8932.

Yell County's Petit Jean River Monster Festival will return for 2021,  with the event planned for Saturday, September 18th in Danville.  The festival, that debuted in 2019; is a fund raiser for the Lt. Kevin Mainhart Memorial Scholarship Fund.  Food, fun and a musical showcase will be included.  Also on tap, a street carnival, 5-k race, tug of war, a car and motorcycle show and plenty of arts and crafts.  Go to Petit Jean River Monster Festival on Facebook for further details.
