The Pope County U of A System, Division of Agriculture Cooperative Pope County Extension Service will be hosting a jelly making workshop for youth on July 14, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The workshop will teach the basics on how to make and preserve grape jelly. The participants will also make butter and biscuits. The cost is $15 per participant. The deadline to register is July 9, 2021 and space is limited. July 14th thru July 16th – Union Grove Free Will Baptist Vacation Bible School
Union Grove Free Will Baptist would like to invite you to their vacation bible school July 14th through the 16th at 77 Union Grove Road in Atkins. Kids age Kindergarten thru 6th grade will step back in time at "Wilderness Escape", an exploration of the adventures, food, and games from bible times. Summer is in full swing, and with that comes many days spent on the water.  Lake Dardanelle State Park will be hosting its Arkansas River Cleanup on July 24th and your invited to participate. Registration will begin that morning at 8 a.m. at the Lake Dardanelle State Park Visitor Center, and boats will launch at 9 a.m. The cleanup has been an annual event since 2011. Each year, volunteers remove plastic bottles, coolers, tires, and other trash from shorelines helping to improve the health of the lake as well as beautifying the area.

The Arkansas River Valley Arts Center is looking ahead to a busy summer, with a display underway of works by Conway artist Meikel Church at the center on East B Street in Russellville.  And, planned is an August 7th event, the River Valley Artist Invitational; will feature a country living theme, with hours that evening also from 5:30 to 7:30 p/m at the center.  Plans for an Arts Center Car Show are also coming together for August 14th...

Mount George Church of Christ reminds that the first Saturday of each month they host a "Food Day" for those in need.  Hours for that event are 9 to 11 a/m at the church, located at the intersection of Highways 28 and 154.  All in need are invited...

The city of Danville reminds that their aquatics center is open for the summer season.  Hours of operation are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 12-to-5 p/m.  Tuesday and Thursday, noon to 8 p/m.  The aquatics center is closed on Sunday.  Admission is 4-dollars for those 17 and under, 5-dollars 18 and over, and 2 and under get in free.  Get further information by calling 495-2235.

Dardanelle Chamber of Commerce is getting ready for their annual "Chocolate Festival", this year set for Friday, July 16th at the McGee Community Center.  Hours for the event, with a theme of "Wonka, the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" will be from 5 to-8 p/m.  Proceeds from this year's effort will go toward medical expenses for the Kerry Florian and Mary Standridge families.  Admission will be a minimum donation of 5-dollars at the door.  Get further information at the Dardanelle Chamber of Commerce Facebook page.

Dover Public Schools reminds that their Summer Meals program is underway... Each Thursday, drive-thru meal pick-up will begin at 12-noon and run till 2 p/m, or until meals are exhausted.  The meal kits will include 5 breakfasts, 5 lunches, milk, fruit and produce for children up to age 18.  Families with youth don't have to be a Dover School System student to be included in the program.

September 21st is the date for the 2021 Dover Public Education Foundation Banquet, a fund raiser for this community organization.  Plans are being finalized for this year's effort, celebrating the 10th for the event.  Dover High School Cafeteria will play host to the effort.  Get further details at DoverPEF-dot-Org.

Johnson County Coordinators have set at September 11th date for their 24th annual Relay For Life event on the Courthouse square at Clarksville.  Hours for the event will be from 6 to 10 p/m, with food, games and fun included in the effort to raise funds toward the battle against cancer.  Teams are forming now and those interested can call 979-4569 or 979-8932.

Yell County's Petit Jean River Monster Festival will return for 2021,  with the event planned for Saturday, September 18th in Danville.  The festival, that debuted in 2019; is a fund raiser for the Lt. Kevin Mainhart Memorial Scholarship Fund.  Food, fun and a musical showcase will be included.  Also on tap, a street carnival, 5-k race, tug of war, a car and motorcycle show and plenty of arts and crafts.  Go to Petit Jean River Monster Festival on Facebook for further details.
