COVID-19 forces cancellation of ATU poinsettia sale

For the first time in 37 years, the poinsettia sale hosted by the ATU Department of Agriculture has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic for the 2020 holiday season. This is an annual event and the ATU Department of Agriculture plans to resume plant sales when it is safe to do so.

 

Arkansas Game and Fish Catch Me if You Can Contest

Arkansas Game and Fish have released hundreds of rainbow trout into their family and community fishing program ponds tagged with prizes for you to catch. From now until February 27th, if you catch one of the trout, you could win one of three guided fishing trips on the Red River provided by ‘Sore Lip-Em’ Guide Service and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Just mail the pink tag with the angler’s name, address, telephone number, and where and when the fish was caught to: Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Family and Community Fishing Program 2 Natural Resources Drive Little Rock, AR 72205. Dardanelle Senior Activity Center Yell-a-Little-Louder Christmas Lunch Fundraiser-Dec 18th

The Dardanelle Senior Activity Center is hosting a Christmas lunch event Friday, December 18th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to benefit the Activity Center and their home delivered meal program. The lunch will consist of Cornish game hen, cornbread casserole, sweet potato salad, green beans, a roll and your choice of either chocolate pie or pumpkin cake for just ten dollars. Tickets are available at the Dardanelle Senior Activity Center or call 479-229-4129 for more details on signing up.

 

Dover Chamber of Commerce Holiday Decoration Contest through December 18th

The City of Dover and the Dover Chamber of Commerce has announced that a Christmas decoration contest for Dover residents will take place this year. There is no charge to enter but you must have an entry form filled out. Stop by Dover City Hall to get signed up. There is a $100 prize for first place, a $75 prize for second place, and a $50 prize for third place. Deadline to sign up is December 18th and the judging will take place on December 20th. Entries and winners will be posted on the Dover Chambers’ website and Facebook page.

 

Girl Scouts Holiday Event December 19th

December 19th from 2-4 p.m. Girl Scouts will be hosting a Girl Scouts Holiday Event at Orr Auto Mall. Come join your local Girl Scout troop for some holiday fun with games, writing letters to the North Pole, and Santa will be there for pictures! This event will follow all COVID-19 safety protocols including mask wearing, social distancing, and limiting the number of people inside.

 

River Valley Food For Kids Food Distribution

River Valley Food For Kids will be having its annual food distribution December 18th and 19th at their location south of Arkansas Tech Campus in on North Elmira in Russellville and volunteers are still needed. First Baptist Church Living Nativity Dec 21-23

First Baptist Church in Russellville is presenting its annual Living Nativity on the front lawn of First Security Bank on Main Street in Russellville December 21st, 22nd, and 23rd. After the performance on the 23rd, there will be a special church service on-site at 6p.m. for all in attendance.

 

Newton County Senior Center Christmas Bake Sale and Christmas Ornaments Dec 21-23

The Newton County Senior Center is hosting a bake sale of holiday treats including: homemade pumpkin, pecan, or coconut cream pies, strawberry cheesecake, or a dozen oatmeal walnut cranberry or chocolate chip cookies. The deadline for the bake sale is December 21st at 9 a.m. Additionally, the Center will be making customized holiday decorations now through December 23rd. Russellville Animal Shelter “Home for the Holidays” Event thru December 23rd

The Russellville Animal Shelter at 3115 South Mobile will be waiving all adoption fees through December 23rd, 2020 for their “Home for the Holidays” event. Shelter hours during this event will be Monday thru Friday 9-5 and Saturday's 10-4.  All animals will be spayed and neutered and have all their shots with the exception of the rabies vaccine. With local seniors staying home amidst the Coronavirus pandemic, Meals on Wheels, provided by the Newton County Senior Center, is looking for your support to feed the seniors.
