Wildlife of Arkansas Art Contest

The annual Wildlife of Arkansas Student Art Contest hosted by The Arkansas Wildlife Foundation and Creative Ideas has shifted to a virtual format this year. For the 2021 contest, students from kindergarten thru 12th grade will submit artwork online through a portal on the Arkansas Wildlife Federation website, www.arwild.org. The contest is free and open to all K-12 students in Arkansas. Artwork must be submitted by March 15th, 2021. Visit www.arwild.org/art-contest for rules and submission details.

 

Russellville Recreation and Parks Summer Softball League

The Russellville Recreation and Parks Department will register teams for the Summer Adult Softball League starting March 1 and ending at 5:00 pm on March 12.  Teams that register must pay the entry fee and submit an entry form and a team roster.  All the forms you need are available in the Russellville Recreation and Parks Department Office or online at www.russellvillearkansas.org. Newton County Senior Center Fish Fry

Friday, March 19th, the Newton County Senior Center is hosting a drive-through fish fry with fried catfish or chicken strips, coleslaw, pinto beans, jalapeño cheddar cornbread, pickled green tomatoes, and a pear crisp for desert. The meal is $10 a plate and will benefit the Meals on Wheels program of Newton County. Call 870-446-5531 to get in on the fish fry or to make a one-time monetary donation.

 

River Valley United Way Curbside Crawfish Fundraiser

Cajun Ave’s (Pronounced “Avz” not Avenue) is hosting a curbside crawfish fundraiser benefitting the United Way of the River Valley. This is a “fresh from Louisiana” crawfish boil by the pound. Delivery is available on orders of 5 pounds or more. Those wanting to participate are encouraged to get their order in early! Order deadline is March 8th,  and pick-up is March 12th at the Russellville Train Depot. Cost is $12 a pound. Community Service First Tee Program Junior Golf Camp

Community Service Inc.’s First Tee Program is hosting a Spring Break Junior Golf Camp on March 23rd from 9a.m. to noon at the Russellville Country Club. This one-day camp is $15 with limited scholarships available. Lessons will include: “How to Swing”, “Introducing Rules and Etiquette”, and “How to Chip”. The camp is open to youth ages 7-12 years and you can register now at www.csiyouth.com.

Convalescent Plasma Needed: Arkansas Blood Institute

The Arkansas Blood Institute is seeking men and women who have been positive for the COVID-19 virus to donate plasma to patients currently suffering from the virus. Arkansas Blood Institute is the only provider of plasma products to local hospitals in the river valley. If you have defeated the virus, you are 14 days symptom free, and have your positive test results, please donate to the Arkansas Blood Institute and help other people suffering defeat the virus as well. The Russellville Community Market (RCM) is an online farmer’s market operating year-round. Many of the vendors you know and love with traditional markets can still be shopped from with RCM as well. The market is open for ordering Fridays at 12 PM through Sundays at 10 PM, then patrons pick up and pay for their order on Tuesday evenings from 4-8 PM at the Train Depot in Downtown Russellville. (No payment or financial information is submitted online.)
